HP announced a mini-desktop t430 designed for the “offices of the future”. And if workstation with similar dimensions is not a novelty on the market, we definitely don’t see offices utilising them as much. Perhaps, the future was not waiting for the technology, but for an appropriate price. Let’s see what this device has to offer.
This minikin is 135 x 135 x 32mm and its weight is 740 grams. The manufacturer claims that this is the first desktop solution that uses a single USB Type-c cable to provide power to the device and act as data input/output at the same time. Naturally, processing capabilities are quite limited, although this should be suitable for most of the office work: dual-core Intel Celeron with 1,1 GHz (up to 2,6 GHz with Turbo Boost), Intel UHD Graphics 600, maximum of 4GB DDR4 SDRAM, and 16/32GB flash memory hard drive. HP t430 uses Gigabit Ethernet, wireless Wi-Fi (comes as an optional adapter), USB Type-C, USB 3.0, DisplayPort 1.2, and HDMI to communicate with the external world.
HP t430 will appear on the shelves very soon, possibly even this month. It will carry Windows 10 IoT Enterprise onboard. And finally, the decisive factor – the price, approximate price of this PC is under £200.
Verdict. Windows 10 IoT Enterprise is a great solution for an office as it is easy to maintain and supports any Windows 10 apps. A 32GB hard drive is small (not to mention 16GB one), so you must be sure you store everything somewhere else on the network (server or cloud). The processor is not fast but will do for office work. No mess with the cables guaranteed. The price is also great. Get a kick-start with office upgrade by selling old office computers (in London).
